Community Contribution | The human spirit transcends cultural differences and drives a willingness to succeed. At GHD our boundless collective spirit drives our ambition to create a better world. We are committed to defining and embedding practices which deliver sustainable value and community-focused outcomes. |
GHD GLOBAL FOUNDATION
The GHD Global Foundation was established in 2001 to provide funds and skills for projects in disadvantaged communities across the world. Each year one tangible project is selected with the aim of enhancing local ways of life.
The Foundation is contributing to the Northern Samar Structure Planning Project in the Philippines. The Northern Samar Coalition Against Poverty (NSCAP) is led by the provincial government of Northern Samar and includes several private and not-for-profit organisations that seek to improve economic conditions and alleviate poverty in the province. NSCAP requires a master development plan to help guide the selection and implementation of infrastructure projects and the GHD Global Foundation is assisting with this.
Recently, the Foundation contributed AUD10,000 to the Cattle Camp Project near Mount Isa in Queensland. Aimed at providing assistance to indigenous youth, the Cattle Camp Project helps participants to refocus their lives and contribute to society. GHD undertook a feasibility assessment for a facility that will accommodate up to fifteen young men and women for a six-month program.
The GHD Global Foundation also donated AUD10,000 to support the Diabetes Ride Across Oz Program. Diabetes is fast becoming a health epidemic with the World Health Organisation estimating that more than 180 million people worldwide suffer with the illness often developed as a result of lifestyle choices. GHD became major sponsors of the famous bike ride that sees participants cycle 3,456 kilometres from Perth to Melbourne to raise awareness about the disease.
GHD IN THE COMMUNITY
Established in 2005, GHD in the Community supports staff involvement in not-for-profit organisations. The Board allocates AUD100,000 per year to fund projects undertaken by not-for-profit organisations with which our people are involved. Grants are donated to selected projects.
It is increasingly difficult for not-for-profit organisations to survive in today’s business environment and GHD in the Community helps to ease their burdens.
We are committed to defining and embedding working practices which create sustainable value and community focussed outcomes. Click the links below for details both on GHD's philosophy in regard to community involvement as well as examples of the philosophy in effect.
COMMUNITY SPIRIT
In addition to the above-mentioned programs GHD also plays a pro-active role in enhancing the environment and global communities. We are proud to use our knowledge and resources to improve the way people live, work and play, and some recent initiatives include:
- A dopting 41 polar bears on World Environment Day 2007. This initiative is managed by the World Wildlife Fund and the funds raised are used to examine the behavioural patterns of bears and research the effects of climate change on the animals and their habitat.
- Visiting the Rumah Impian Orphanage in Petaling Jaya in Malaysia to host a lunch with the children. The facility cares for 16 children whose parents are unable to support them.
- Undertaking an initiative to raise funds for a local hospital program that provides vital support services to patients and their families living with breast and ovarian cancer in Australia. This worthwhile cause is part of the official ‘Think Pink’ day, which sees companies raise funds by hosting morning teas.
- Supporting the True Blue Dreaming Outback Youth Mentoring Program which fosters a network of young people, promotes equality of opportunity between rural, remote and metropolitan Australia, as well as a greater respect for indigenous culture.
GHD ALUMNI PROGRAM
The GHD Alumni Program is a network of former employees who continue to be part of the broad GHD community.
Members have spent time in their careers contributing to the company, establishing friendships and gaining professional experience. Ongoing connection to the company continues to have mutual strength and value.
CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS
GHD also touches the community by making financial contributions to charitable societies and not-for-profit organisations that assist some of the world’s most vulnerable people.
The activities of these organisations improve general health, living standards and infrastructure, assist regions that have been devastated by disaster and promote humanitarian values.
Contributions include:
- Red Cross donation for tsunami relief
- Guide Dogs Association
