GHD is an employee-owned company led by a dedicated Board of Directors.

They are leaders in their respective fields. Their knowledge of industry and strong commercial acumen has shaped GHD as a progressive, contemporary professional services company.


Clive Weeks – Chairman
Clive is a civil engineer with over 33 years’ experience in large infrastructure projects and has been a Director since 1992. He was previously GHD’s Chief Executive Officer and earlier managed the Victorian and Northern Territory operations. As Chairman, Clive is responsible for managing key Professional Indemnity matters, shareholder interests, and leading and reporting on the performance of the Board.

Des WhybirdChief Executive Officer (CEO)
Des was appointed to the Board in 1999 and has nearly 35 years’ experience in design and management of transportation and water infrastructure projects as well as building and tourism developments. As CEO, Des is committed to the implementation of GHD’s Strategy Towards 2010 focusing on Clients, People and Performance. He also has particular interest in our practice systems such as Risk Management, Quality, Environmental and Safety, and the strengthening of our knowledge management processes.

Michael Polin – General Manager, Development
Michael was appointed to the Board in 1996. He has nearly 35 years’ experience in the planning, design and development of major civil infrastructure projects in Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. In his current role Michael is responsible for overseeing company's growth into new regions including China, Europe and the US.

Ian Shepherd – General Manager, Australia and Middle East
Ian has nearly 30 years’ experience in engineering and project management. He is the former Perth Operating Centre Manager and today leads GHD’s Australian and Middle East operations. Ian was appointed to the Board in 1999 and in his previous role as Chairman of the Strategy Committee, he played a critical part in the development of GHD’s strategic plan, Strategy Towards 2010.

Russell Board – General Manager, South East Asia and New Zealand/Pacific
Russell has 28 years’ experience in the planning, design, and construction of major infrastructure projects. He has previously managed GHD’s Northern Territory and North Queensland practices, and more recently the development of GHD’s practice in New Zealand. Today Russell is responsible for leading the company’s operations in South East Asia, New Zealand/Pacific and South America.

Pat O’Dwyer – General Manager, Services and Risk
Pat was appointed to the board in 2005, and is responsible for GHD's Services and Risk portfolio. A Metallurgical Engineer and a Harvard School of Business graduate, Pat has over 35 years' experience in mining operations and in project management, particularly in the Mining and Oil and Gas sectors. In his previous role as Operating Centre Manager, Brisbane, he achieved improved performance in turnover, profitability and the development of our people.

Nick Apostolidis – Business Stream Leader, Water
Nick leads the Water Business Stream. He has nearly 30 years' experience in the industry and a thorough understanding of international trends in water and wastewater management. Nick has access to many key decision makers in government and industry, and has helped to position GHD as the foremost provider of Water consulting services in Australasia and beyond.

Tom Pinzone – Business Stream Leader, Transportation and Logistics
Appointed to the Board in 2002, Tom has over 32 years’ experience in the management, planning, investigation, design and implementation of infrastructure projects, and is GHD’s Transportation and Logistics Business Stream Leader. He led the research team for the 2001 Australian Infrastructure Report Cardand for several state Infrastructure Report Cards. At present Tom is guiding GHD's development in the United Kingdom and further expansion into Europe.

Peter Wood – General Manager, China
Peter was appointed to the Board in 2002 and is Chairman of GHD’s Strategy Committee. He has spent 33 years specialising in geological and hydrogeological projects, with particular experience in geotechnical risk assessment and management. Peter has experience in a number of Asian countries and has been instrumental in establishing GHD in China. He is an outcomes oriented professional who seeks to achieve results through motivation and empowerment of our people.

Richard Holliday – General Manager, Finance and Administration
A Chartered Accountant with over 26 years’ experience, Richard is the General Manager, Finance and
Administration. Prior to joining GHD in 1999 Richard held senior positions with one of the world’s leading accounting partnerships, and in engineering contractor groups that operated in the Energy, Construction, Property and Mining sectors. His professional experience includes mergers and acquisitions, management information systems, corporate finance and taxation.

David Ryan – Operating Centre Manager, Middle East
David was appointed to the Board in 2006 and manages GHD’s Middle East Operating Centre. A civil engineer with nearly 30 years’ experience in project, design and general management, David transferred from Melbourne to Doha in 2005, where he has overseen many important initiatives including the opening of GHD’s new Cairo office, numerous training courses via the GHD Business School, and reinforcing Job Management practises.

Derek Crombie – Office Manager, Christchurch
GHD’s Christchurch Office Manager, Derek has over 35 years’ experience as a civil engineer and project manager, and brings a keen focus on managing client relationships and generating new business growth to the Board. Derek has extensive experience in South East Asia and broad knowledge of business operations in the USA, and is a Director of City Care Limited (Christchurch) and a Trustee of the Central Plains Water Trust.
