Hale Street Link - Draft Impact Assessment Statement

**IMPORTANT NOTICE- Submissions on the Hale St Link Draft IAS have closed and are not being taken after 13th October 2006 **

Feasibility study

The Hale Street Link Project (HSL Project) is a 60km/h four-lane tolled cross-river bridge between Milton and South Brisbane. The HSL Project would connect with Coronation Drive and Hale Street at Milton and Montague Road, Cordelia and Merivale streets at South Brisbane. The purpose of the HSL Project is to provide an alternate and more efficient route in and out of Milton, South Brisbane and West End for residents and visitors to those areas. It would also serve to relieve congestion, improve accessibility and support future urban development in the area.

The HSL Project, which is proposed to be operated as a toll road, would consist of a balanced cantilever concrete bridge, similar in style to Victoria Bridge. It would be about 27m wide and span almost 300m across the river with an 11m clearance above high tide. The bridge would have a dedicated off-road cyclepath with connections to the Bicentennial Bikeway on the northern side of the river and the Riverside Drive Bikeway and Montague Road on the southern side. It would also have a dedicated, shaded walkway that would meet equitable/disabled access requirements and would link to footpaths on both sides of the river.

The HSL Project has not been declared a significant project and therefore did not require an Environmental Impact Statement in accordance with the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971 (QLD).

Council decided to undertake a voluntary Impact Assessment Statement and the consultancy company GHD Pty. Ltd. is coordinating the preparation of a voluntary Draft Impact Assessment Statement (IAS) on behalf of Council.
